Google Search Engine Results – Organic Versus Sponsored Part 2

With organic search engine listings, there are greater ‘click-throughs’ because people trust ‘organically grown search results’ typically more than they do the paid ones. Because of their contextual nature, organic search listings could end up being more relevant and certainly would offer a greater amount of choices. When all things are equal, organic searches will provide the better click-through rates while paid ads do play an important part in a businesses marketing strategy, they may not be the best choice in the end.

Organic search listings could be helpful for company or product branding which is very important in today’s economic climate. An example of this would be that most consumers would expect a search for coffee to bring back a listing for Starbucks.com. It would be embarrassing for a company not to show up on a keyword search that one would expect it to. Patrons of the coffee shop may wonder if the company is as important as they thought they were especially if they don’t show up on Google, MSN or Yahoo! On the other side, by inserting the coffee shop into the top search engines it could give people the impression that the company is important. With that, smaller companies could make a ‘big’ impression by securing a better spot on an organic search engine than their larger competitor.

Organic search should be the first consideration for any product, service or company in order to gain the trust, respect and business.
